The wonderful people at Operation Give have generously agreed to partner with us, and are providing free shipping for people who are donating books! For that to happen, you'll need to follow the shipping instructions outlined below.
-
Box and tape up all of your items. Sort through them so that like books can all be put in the same box if possible. For example, science fiction paperbacks in one box, hardback mysteries in another.
-
Please mark the outside of each boxes with: GiveBooks.us. That way the folks at Operation Give will know it's a box of books when it arrives at their warehouse in Utah, and they can sort it accordingly prior to shipping to the Middle East.
-
Go to a FedEx station, customer service center, or Kinko's to obtain the necessary shipping paperwork, called an "air bill." If you are sending more than one box, be sure to tell the people there that you have a "multiple piece shipment" so you get the correct form.
-
Fill out the air bill with the following information. At the top put the date you are shipping the boxes. You will need to put an account number where it asks for one. Here's it gets slightly complicated, but please stick with it.
In order to get this account number, send an email to: send@GiveBooks.us. In this email, you'll need to include four things:
Within 48 hours (depending on how busy the volunteers are at Operation Give) you'll receive a return email with the account number for the FedEx form. When you get that email, write the account number on the form.
-
Next, in the Shipper Information section, write:
-
Rose Flenorl, FedEx
3610 Hacks Cross Road
Memphis, TN, 38125
This is how FedEx knows to pick up the tab for shipping. Do not list your own name and address.
-
In the Recipient Information write:
-
Operation Give
c/o Bridgepoint Systems
542 West Confluence Ave
Salt Lake City, Utah 84123
-
Finally, mark each of the following:
- Indicate "Express Services" (and not ground services)
- Indicate "Standard Overnight Service"
- Specify the number of boxes and their approximate weight
And that's it. You're ready to drop them off at your local FedEx, or call them for a pick up.
Congratulations, you've just donated books to the troops!
